BACKCOUNTRY SLEDDING SKILLS

GET COMFORTABLE SLEDDING IN THE BACKCOUNTRY

What is it and what to expect

This seems like an odd one to have in here doesn't it? Sledding is a passion of mine since I was a child. I love sharing this sport with others, especially those of you that want to get comfortable in the backcountry. Firstly, this sport is not for everyone. The sleds are typically 450-500 pounds, and if you don't know how to control it, it will control you, it's as simple as that. But, once you learn how to control it, it will take you places and let you see things that only a few people get to see, as well as the gratification you get from this learning process is unprecedented. So, let's get going and have more fun. One on One Backcountry Sled Coaching specifically geared to your goals. Geared towards entry-level up through intermediate riders. Ages 18+. However, under 18 are accepted after an in-depth interview with guardian present at both initial interview and coaching session(s). Suggested focus on: safety in the backcountry, rider and sled preparation. Skills training including: throttle control, brake control, balance, side-hilling, getting unstuck, reading terrain and avoiding dangerous areas, sled maintenance for reliability, rider gear selection. Note: IMPORTANT - I do NOT provide avalanche training, however we spend time learning how to identify and AVOID avalanche terrain. My experience and view of how to stay safe in the backcountry, is to avoid avalanche terrain all together (abstinence). All the training and equipment in the world can not guarantee you will survive an avalanche, so I simply don't go there. We will stay well below 30 degree pitches (the beginning of the death zone of avalanches). 30 degrees on a sled is very steep, we will have no reason to be there at this level of coaching. Specific avalanche classes can be found at several Colorado based companies if you search online. ** Full Day On The Snow: $265 (typically at trailhead by 9am - back at trailhead by 3-4pm - all depending on conditions, weather, etc.) Rider provides own sled, fuel, transportation, etc. ** Half Day Off The Snow: $165 (typically at my garage, your sled, provide tips on sled set up, some on-the-spot adjustments usually happen, start seeding the mind-set for being on the snow). This works best anywhere from 2-4 weeks prior to a day on the snow to give you time to prepare your sled and gear for your first coaching session. Participant liability waiver required for on the snow coaching
